Featured Designer Michelle Sheehan

Today our spotlight is shining on S:CY Design Team Member Michelle Sheehan.

Michelle was born in Liverpool, NSW, Australia but now lives in Canberra, ACT, Australia. As Michelle tells it: "I love it here as it's not as busy as the big cities but it has everything you need." Michelle's been a member of the DT at S:CY since April 2011.

Michelle has been married 8 years and has been scrapbooking just as long. For Michelle, SB'ing is a definite mood-enhancement tool. She told me that if she can't scrap for awhile, she feels "antsy" and a bit discouraged. In the past, Michelle has fulfilled the role of Design Team Member at both The Mosy Scrapper and Roll 2 Create.

Michelle keeps busy and has several other hobbies in addition to her scrappin'. As she tells it "I also love to read, go out and spend time with my DH and family."  Her fave genres of novel are romance, true crime, mystery, and suspense. Michelle is presently crocheting an afghan blanket all in soft brown shades. This creative skill runs in the family: Michelle told me that her Mum taught her how to crochet.

Michelle's fave subjects to scrap are her new niece Ella Grace, her family and her husband. When I asked Michelle what was especially inspiring to her about her baby niece, she replied "Everything about Ella is inspiring to me as a scrapper, she is my first niece and it is so good to be able to scrap photos of her!"

Michelle likes to scrap with family nearby, so she has a desk set up in the family room for this purpose. Her sources of scrappy inspiration include blogs, sketches, forums and magazines, or surfing the net; looking at online galleries.

Michelle is a busy person. She has co-founded a site called The Scrapper's Sanctuary, also known as "TSS".   It's a forum forum filled with fun monthly challenges, lots of scrap talk, games and chit chat, says Michelle. "We have some good sponsors lined up: Ranger is our sponsor in August," and she invites S:CY readers to pop by and visit, perhaps to stay-- and play with paper!  Michelle's fave thing about managing TSS is "being able to provide a place for like-minded people to come together." 

Michelle's "go-to" products are "anything Prima at the moment!" Her favourite colour of cardstock is Kraft, and she is not fussy about what brand it is- anything Kraft will do! She scraps whenever the mood hits, be it daytime or later on. 

Michelle's love of Kraft cardstock lends itself well to the creation of vintage layouts, like the one below one, created for S:CY as part of her DT work.

In terms of organization, for the storage of her patterned paper Michelle uses a 12x12 paper rack. She keeps her cardstock organized in a Cropper Hopper unit. Michelle prefers to scrapbook in 12x12 size and has a definite preference for 3-ring albums in which to store her completed layouts. 

 This designer is currently involved in an online course...  "Soul Restoration 1 through Brave Girls Club," and as Michelle says "so far it has made me think and listen, and I’m enjoying it."

Michelle recognizes the importance of journaling and does it beautifully. She tells her special stories in her own handwriting  as seen in her wedding day layout.
