Sketch 07-11

Hi Everyone!

It's Friday, and that means the reveal of a new scrappy sketch and DT interpretations!!
Today's sketch inspires a 12x12 LO, and has the potential to showcase three rounded-corner photos.  There's room for some ribbon, trim or lace, some flourishes and even hmmmm.... rounded elements. Could those be brads???????? I LOVE brads!

Let's check out the new sketch and see what the Sketches:Creatively Yours Design Team came up with!

"Let's go Fishing" layout created by
S:CY Design Team Member Maggi Harding

Maggi's journaling reads~
Mom and Dad owned a cottage at Atlantic Beach along with my Aunt and Uncle.  The cottage was just a block or two off the beach.  They all worked together building and finishing it.  After the cottage was ready for occupancy, Dad bought a boat and Craig, Dad and I spent many wonderful weekends fishing together.  I was such a girly girl, I think everyone was shocked that I enjoyed fishing so much.  They couldn’t believe that I would get up at 5 am for a fishing excursion.  Dad got the biggest kick out of his only daughter being such a “fisher-person”.  Once when just Dad and I went fishing, we were trolling for Spanish Mackeral and caught 73 fish!!  I was pulling them in as quick as we could hook them.  Now I still kept my girly “girlness” ‘cause I didn’t really like handling those live fish and taking the hook out of their mouths after I reeled them in, so, I wrapped a towel around them which, Dad found ever so amusing!

Sketch 06-11

Hi everyone!

It's Friday, and that means the reveal of a new sketch and DT interpretations!!

Today's sketch inspires a 12x12 LO, and features scallops plus a long matted photo or embellishment. Additionally, there's the hint of some ribbon, lace, or even stitching!  Patterned and plain papers are both included in the sketch. Wonder what this may have inspired among the members of the S:CY Team!?

Just look at that uber-pretty floral cluster and the blue lacy-effect at the mid-point of the LO. It all looks awesome! Thanks for playing along with us again this week, Liz!

What have the rest of our S:CY Design Team come up with this week? Keep on reading! :) I think that you'll be thrilled to see these creations!

[Notes: All images are Tammy's. "The background is "The Three Sisters" mountain range in the Alberta Rockies, chosen because that's where we were at the time."]

Journaling reads: I managed to catch a picture of Zac at the very first moment he stood on his own! I was taking pictures of him holding onto Grandma’s hand. When she let her hand drop he just let go, and that was it, he was standing. He turned at looked right at me just as the shutter released. I think the look on his face says, “Hey! Look at me! I did it!”

The journaling is a song lyric:
The Story
by Phil Hanseroth

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true...I was made for you
I climbed across the mountain tops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules
But baby I broke them all for you
Because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
You do
I was made for you
You see the smile that's on my mouth
It's hiding the words that don't come out
And all of my friends who think that I'm blessed
They don't know my head is a mess
No, they don't know who I really am
And they don't know what
I've been through like you do
And I was made for you...
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true...I was made for you

"Picture perfection" layout created by S:CY Design Team Leader
Ali MacDonald
Journaling reads:

Picture Perfection

I took some pictures of Grandma, Noah and Argo during March Break 2011. Grandma and "Grandpa Critter" were hosting a Spaghetti Dinner in their area to benefit the Lions Foundation of Canada’s AADG Program and needed a photo for the article that reporter Bob Lafrance would be writing in the Victoria Star to publicize the event.
This photo was one of our favourites.
The photo below it shows Noah reaching out, touching Argo’s paw soon after his Dog Guide friend joined our family.  It looks like they are “hand in hand.” How perfect!

FEATURED DESIGNER: Amy Manis

Amy Manis, a member of the April-September 2011 S:CY Design Team describes herself as “a small town girl living in Ohio.” She is Mom to 2 little girls, ages five and three, who are the main subjects of her layouts.

S:CY Design Team Member Amy Manis
Amy was introduced to scrapbooking in 1998, when a friend asked her to help put some scrapbooks together. As Amy tells it, “of course I said 'yes.' As we were putting these scrapbooks together I was instantly hooked. And today, I am enjoying putting my own scrapbooks together.”

Amy looks to the future as she creates pages and sees her work as a legacy for her little girls. As she puts it: “My favorite subjects to scrap are my children because when they are women themselves they will want to share their albums with their own children. At least I hope so!”

Amy says she has “an obsession with pattern paper and my favorite scrapbook paper is the 'Posh' collection by Teresa Collins Designs.”

Another favorite product is chipboard: "anything from Crate Paper!” says Amy.

Amy says that she likes thick Cardstock for her card and layout projects. She says that her favourite two brands are American Crafts and Bazzill Basics. The colours turquoise, yellow, red, and black are her faithful favourites.

"Dress Up Gypsy Girl" layout  created by Amy Manis
Amy relies on two favourite online sites: Design Sponge  and Pinterest as sources of inspiration. She says that they both provide her with great ideas for color, decor, and pattern.

'Monkey" layout created by Amy Manis
In talking about tried-and-true techniques, Amy unhesitatingly told me that distressing is the one she returns to again and again. She relates that her “favorite technique is using the distress ink pad and blending tool by Ranger Ink. I rub the blending tool to the ink pad and [then] rub around the edges of the paper.” The classic Heidi Swapp "edge distresser" tool is her favourite item for roughing up her paper.

In terms of tricks related to distressing, Amy’s is related to the clean-up process. She told me that she uses “the craft sheet by Ranger Ink. It is so easy to clean up just by wiping with a cloth or paper towel to get stuff off of it!”

Amy likes sketches, and says she uses them to help her gain a creative outlet and step out of her comfort zone. Amy reports that her favourite sketch artists are Christy Tomlinson , Effy Wild , and Teresa Collins.

Amy has taken a few online scrap-related classes and points to “Eye for Design: color creative” taught by Christy Tomlinson as her most enjoyed class to date. Amy loves colour. She said, when asked to name just one colour for ALL the walls of her home, … “I have to laugh because my husband would not like just one color on all the walls, but if I have to choose it would be turquoise, my favorite color.”

Since her local scrapbook store has closed, Amy works on her LOs and cards at home instead of at crops. She says ”I like to scrap at night when my girls go to bed. It’s quiet and I have no distractions from anyone.”

Asked about the most awesome scrappy gift she’s received lately, Amy says “the best gift I have received is from a person I am in a swap with for a whole year. She gave me three distress ink pads & crackle paint by Tim Holtz (Ranger).”
Amy has some advice for those of us who are trying to purge scraps and things we know we won’t use. She says “What you can do is get three boxes and write on one box ‘Throw Away,’ on another ‘Keep,’ and the other box, write ‘Goodwill’. Take your time sorting and you will be glad you did this. You will feel better, no stress, and someone will be happy to have found something they have always wanted!”
Alongside her scrapbooking and cardmaking, Amy really enjoys art journaling.

Amy's scrapbooking often features a shabby-chic style enhanced with bolts of beautiful bold colour that fall right into place on her LOs. For example, in the three LOs Amy sent for this Design Team Member feature, "RED" is the POP of colour that works to mimic the energy her photos command. Softly patterned floral papers and crisp, bright flower embellies create a feminine atmosphere of whimsy that is perfect for showcasing her 2 little darlings. One or two word titles usually dominate in Amy’s work. Obvious journaling is minimal: she lets her photos speak for themselves.
