A Warm Thank You and a Hearty Welcome!

Fall is arriving with all of its' beautiful colours! This is a glorious autumn photo, taken by my Dad. The colours will intensify over the next week or so. I wish you could ALL see it! This was taken close to where my parents live on the Moose Mtn Range in Kincardine, New Brunswick, Canada.

As the summer truly wanes here in the Maritimes. I would like to take this opportunity to THANK our TWO very special guests for the month of September.

September 2009 "Sketches: Creatively Yours" Guest Designer Vivi Rahman

A warm thanks to "Sketches: Creatively Yours" Guest Design Team Member Vivi Rahman for her unfailing help with the S:CY Blog, and for sharing with us her truly beautiful creations. We will be seeing more of Vivi, of that I am certain. THANK YOU Vivi! Please come by and play ANYTIME!!! (((HUGZ))) to you!

September 2009 "Sketches: Creatively Yours" Guest Sketch Artist, Deanne Burton

Another big (((hug))) of thanks goes to Deanne Burton who was our S: CY Guest Sketch Artist for the month of September. I think I have an entire album full of LO's I have done with Deanne's versatile & unique sketches. I just love her free-to-create-with sketch style! So many possibilities! I interviewed Deanne when I worked at Scrapbooker's Club House as PR and Promo Director and she was our Guest Designer.... and I think it's safe to say we've been scrap-friends ever since. LOL Thank you Deanne, for so many things!!

Without further ado, I want to introduce you to our new Guest Designer.
October is going to be a fabulous month at "Sketches: Creatively Yours" because we have a 100% dedicated S: CY Blog follower and creative dynamo as a guest!

I'm SO EXCITED! Please share a "cyber pat on the back" for our October Guest Designer, MICHELLE HODGES!

WELCOME Michelle!

"Sketches: Creatively Yours" Guest Designer Michelle Hodges

Michelle's "Bio"~

Hi! I am Michelle Hodges and I live in South Texas. I have been married for 19 years and we have a four year old daughter. I’m a SAHM and I love having the opportunity to be there for our daughter. When I’m not scrapping I enjoy spending time with family, being outdoors, Church activities, and traveling. Some of our favorite outdoor activities are going to the Beach, hiking, bird watching, and driving around in the golf cart.

I started scrapbooking twelve years ago and it became my primary creative outlet while I was pregnant five years ago. It is the by far the most enjoyable craft I have been involved in.My scrapbooking style is shabby-chic, artsy, simple with clean lines and some vintage. My style changes depending on what products I’m using and the kind of project I’m working on. I feel I’m very versatile when I scrap because I enjoy creating, trying new techniques, and new projects.

Some of my favorite Scrapbook manufacturers are Sassafras Lass, Cosmo Cricket, Basic Grey, Jenni Bowlin, Graphic 45, and Webster’s!

I started participating in online scrapbooking communities about two years ago, when I was introduced to cyber crops. I am actively involved in four online communities and was chosen as Member of the Month in February and Guest Design Team Member in March for Scrappy Times. I became a Design Team member for Scrappy Times in May.

I've also had the privilege of being published four times in an ezine for the Scrapbook site Making Memories for You. In April I won the first Plum Petals flower contest at Vintage Plum for my flower design. I was invited to help out with the Design Team Members for Scrappytimes 1st Cyber Crop in April and I helped with the Scrapthat 1st Cyber Crop at the end of May. I have updated my gallery on my Blog with my recent Scrap projects.

Scrapbook sites that I've been most active in are: Scrappy Times and Scrap–Friendzy. I also participate in Challenges at Scrap Around the Clock.

I told you she was a creative Dynamo! LOL! **wink**

Here is a favourite layout of Michelle's. Below the picture, she details its' elements for us! Isn't this GORGEOUS??

"4 Months Old" LO created by October S:CY Guest Designer Michelle Hodges

Michelle writes: "This "4 months old" paper piercing LO was a recipe challenge I created for Scrap That 1st Cyber Crop. The criteria were to use paper piercing, bling, something with polka dots, and 3 buttons. I used pink cardstock, Bohemian striped paper, and the Pink flowers I cut out of SEI paper. The brown and white flowers are Prima flowers. I used Prima pearls, and the bird is also from SEI from a die cut. I made the journal box."

We began this post with Autumn-inspired colours and so we will end it that way too. Below is a bookmark that Michelle made with S:CY Special Assignment Sketch #5.

She made me proud to be a Sketch Artist when I saw this creation.

Thank You for sharing a part of your creative self with us, Michelle! It's beautiful!

Rita's had surgery....and here is her Sketch #18 interpretation....

Sketches: Creatively Yours Design Team member Rita Barakat submitted the Layout of her "Baby Girl" (above) as her Sketch #18 interpretation a couple of days ago.

I made the decision to post it on the 17/18 as she had surgery on the 17th Sept and I wanted to be able especially to post this request for good thoughts and prayers for her recovery.

I know Rita will be back with us ASAP. For now, Rita, rest as much as you can and we shall see you soon!

Loved this layout, Rita! Your "Baby Girl" is BEAMING! Thanks for sharing it!

Sketch #18

Sketch #18
Designed & created for S:CY by Ali MacDonald

Our first interpretation of Sketch #18 this week was created by Sketches: Creatively Yours Design Team Member Ann Seleshanko:

Ann's triumphant layout features a simple title, soft green & cream tones, memorable photos of her boys and a gorgeous, misty scenic backdrop. Her use of papers mimics the mood of the photo backgrounds and does not take away from the pride the children radiate! GREAT job!

Thanks Ann!

Ali MacDonald ("Yours Truly"), S:CY Designer created the layout below, called "BUMPER CARS" using Sketch #18 as her response to a September 14th Monday Challenge over at the Sisterhood of Scrap Forum. The challenge asked that distressing be used on a layout or card.

Ali stayed pretty true to her sketch.

The distressing component here was accomplished in 7 ways.

They are: 1- messy pen doodles & "hen-scratching," 2- black smeared ink, 3- ravelled rick-rack ends, 4- rough-edged recycled mesh pieces tucked in unexpected spots, 5- sanding of bracket prior to inking, 6- use of BasicGrey's distressed-look lettering (Basic Elements Black: BEL-083) and 7- use of faded-look patterned paper scraps (3 Bugs in a Rug "Seeing Stars" collection).

The S:CY Good News Department

Guess what?

We have TWO pieces of good news to share this morning!

First, Scrapscene, the scrapbooking world's premiere source of information announced that Vivi Rahman and Deanne Burton were fulfilling Guest Design Team Member/Guest Sketch Artist positions on our site this month. Always nice to see the names of those we know and love on Scrapscene! Thanks Angie, for telling everyone we have input and inspiration from Vivi and Deanne this month!

Secondly, I received an email from Design Team Member Andi Dickson yesterday saying that her "More Peas, Please" layout, using the 6x12" Sketch #7 by Sketch Artist Noella Arsenault, was accepted into the BasicGrey Gallery.

BRAVO ANDI!

Kudos for you, Noella, and for S:CY!

FAQ Department

QUESTION: Can I use a S:CY sketch in the completion of a Challenge on another site or forum and then post it here in the S: CY Comments section for you to consider as an entry for a Creative Guest, Guest Designer or October Creative Round-Up spot?

ANSWER: ABSOLUTELY! I'd be thrilled to have you combine an S:CY sketch with a Challenge on another site/blog/Forum whenever and wherever you wish. Just be sure to tell folks on the other Forum where you found the sketch you used. This simply means that you would include a link to S:CY when you post your Challenge creation on their site.

GREAT question- Thanks for asking!

Have a GREAT week everyone!

A quick note about timing this week!

Due to another commitment, I will be posting the Sketches: Creatively Yours inspirational Sketch and our fabulous DT interpretations on TUESDAY this week-- Look for those tomorrow, Sept 15th, 2009.

Happy scrapbooking!

A Dual Announcement!

It's September 1, can you believe it?

My 4 children head back to school tomorrow after a relaxing summer filled with leisure time and LOTS of fun jumping on their new 12' trampoline! For my daughter Kate there was also lots of riding and Pony Club activities to enjoy.
FIRST: A THANK YOU!
With the advent of a brand new month, it is time to say a HUGE, WARM "thank you" to our August 2009 Guest Designer, Angie Redhead. Angie brought some extra-special creative variety to our sketch blog in terms of showing us how sketches can be used for more than scrapbooking and card-making. Exceptional ideas and creativity!
"THANK YOU Angie!"
It was a complete pleasure having you with us last month! You're such a treat to work with... Keep up the awesome job you're doing with ScrapScene- it's an amazing source of inspiration and information for scrappers everywhere! I never miss an "issue!"

September brings more extraordinary talent to Sketches:Creatively Yours!

I have some very special news to share today via a dual announcement.

We are overjoyed to have Guest Designer Vivi Rahman and Guest Sketch Artist Deanne Burton with us this month! These two women of creative vision share their love of scrappin' with us here so that we can get to know them better through their mini-bios and projects.
~ Vivi Rahman ~
Vivi is not a stranger at CY!! She has been a Guest Designer here in the past, & has designed several DT blinkies in addition to the current (and gorgeous!) header for the blog.
Welcome Vivi!

Creatively Yours September 2009 Guest Designer Vivi Rahman

Vivi told me that she lives "in Brunei, a tiny country on Borneo Island." She says that:"The weather is always warm here just like Singapore/Malaysia."
Here's the link to Vivi's Blog.
Vivi's Mini-Bio:
"I am happily married with a very supportive man and blessed with a sweet lovely daughter. I am an owl scrapper [*hoot*] because I only scrap at night when everyone else is in bed. I like mixing different kind of papers rather than sticking to one brand and I simply scrap as soon as mojo drops in hence my pages are ranging from shabby chic style to spunky looking layouts. I love challenges as it enables us to explore our ability to go as far as possible with our never ending imagination. I am pretty sure the end result would be one fabulous achievement one deserves to earn."
Vivi's fave LO:

"Photo Booth," a LO by CY September 2009 Guest Designer Vivi Rahman

Vivi's Fave Project:

"Perfect," a mini-album all about Vivi's precious daughter, Alya

Mosaic Photo of the mini-album project:

I can 100% guarantee that we're going to enjoy some beautiful and inspiring work from our Guest Designer this month, so stay tuned! Again-- welcome to Sketches: Creatively Yours Vivi!

Our second announcement involves SKETCHING!

I've invited talented & prolific scrapper and Sketch Artist Deanne Burton to work with us at Sketches: Creatively Yours this month!

~ Deanne Burton ~

In addition to scrappin' and cardmaking, Deanne creates sketch designs for both cards and layouts. She's no stranger to the Sketches: CY sketch blog, having been a Guest Designer with 2 of her sisters (Carla and Susan) a few months ago. I'm delighted to have her with us.

Welcome Deanne!

Sketches: Creatively Yours September, 2009 Guest Sketch Artist: Deanne Burton

Deanne's Mini-Bio:

"My name is Deanne Burton. I'm a loving wife and mom. I am also a teacher of fantastic grade 6 kids (love 'em to pieces! Super bunch!) I live in Newfoundland, and wouldn't live in any other place in the whole wide world!

I should have said first and foremost, I AM A SCRAP ADDICT! There, I said it!

I have always been creative and have always done some sort of craft for as long as I can remember (even as a toddler!). Right from the first time I put a crayon in my hand, to now I have loved to create!

Scrapbooking allows me to do EXACTLY what I want with a picture and piece of paper! Awesome feeling! My scrapbooking is my passion, my pastime, it is ME!!

I HATE sitting with nothing to do. Idleness is just not "my thang!!!" My hands have to be doing something, so what better to put into busy hands than some great pictures, pretty papers and ribbon, brads, buttons, paint, chipboard, rubons, flowers, ink, glue dots, stamps, and scissors!!!!!!!!

I just love it, I really do!!!!!!"

Would you like to see more of Deanne's work? Here are the links to her blogs:
