Hi everyone!! As you know, we have a Sketch Challenge involving a monthly PRIZE here at S: CY every 2 weeks. Here are the details! How does it work? We will draw for a prize at the end of EACH MONTH. There will be TWO sketch challenges every month, so that mean you'll have two chances to win the monthly prize. A photo of the prize will be posted. :) From now on, when a new layout Sketch is posted on the Blog, you will also see an inspiration piece accompanying the Sketch. These two things, together, make up a "Sketch challenge" which will be described to you in words. 1) Sketch 2) Inspiration piece What should you do for a chance to win the monthly prize? 1. Look at the Sketch and Inspiration piece. Read the challenge. 2. Check and write down the due date! It will be clearly noted in each challenge. Karen writes: Another fun sketch that inspired me to do my Retirement Party. I was wearing the peacock's colors and I even pulled out from my favorite stash, Bo Bunny's "Sophie", the perfect paper. The photos were all taken by people there. I was truly "The Guest of Honor".
Journaling: "We should call you Lightning. You finished the Short Pump Race in 3rd place out of about 100 girls your age. You are excited to do cross-country next year at school. Obviously, you are going to excel! Your time for the mile was 8:01. Go Bella!"

Journaling: "InApril 2012, when spring had almost arrived in the AnnapolisValley, we had a good old-fashioned snowstorm. Usually winter gives us a rip-roaring “last-blast” in March….but April?! Brrrrr! Of course the first thing Noah asked for was to go outside. Bryan, as always, was game to help his little brother, and out they went." For this LO, I was inspired by the beautiful light/medium green tones in the peacock's tail. I also flipped the sketch 2 turns to the left! We sure hope that you'll try this sketch. You worked so hard for a month on writing stories, drawing pictures, and
reading poetry to get ready for the Mother's Tea in Mrs. Carlton's 3rd grade
language arts. The morning was amazing! I am so lucky to be your mom!

From the inspiration piece, I took the rectangular shape of the lamp and interpreted it with a striped tone-on-tone metal element. I used the metallic dotted swirls to mimic the floral damask print in the lampshade. Journaling reads:
In the spring of 2012, as a grade six ELA and Art project, you retold a
Folktale with partner Ryan. It was quite a detailed assignment, and required the
creation of four puppets. You chose the “Lion” and the “Donkey.” Ryan did the “Warthog”
and the “Fox.” (I was really glad we didn’t have to create a warthog!) We sewed your puppets from scraps: a golden
yellow t-shirt sleeve became the Lion and a grey sock, the Donkey. You worked
the sewing machine, cut the yarn, and stitched on the manes with help. We stuck
the eyes on using Glue Dots and you drew the lion’s face with a “Sharpie”
marker. Both puppets turned out so cute, and from the look on your face, I
could see how those puppets ignited your imagination! Great job, Daniel!
